Hello everyone:)

I thought it would be easier, for me, to create one place for updates on Brooke and David. So with that in mind, I am going to start blogging. My goal is to blog daily. So David will be able to check in whenever he can, and will be able to see what Brooke and I are up to. We invite our friends and family to check in on us too.

Day One

Today brought with it a lot of firsts for our little family. Obviously, this is the first day we have had to spend apart on this deployment. Despite my best efforts, it is hard to wake up on a day like today and be happy. I felt like the day was already earmarked as a "bad day," and it really doesn't help when I wake up with a headache, and discover I only have decaf coffee. For those of you who don't know me well, coffee is my happy place. So having to start out my assigned "bad day" without it seemed to be foreshadowing the day's events. Little hiccups happened as my morning progressed, you know all those little things that on any given day are annoying; but on a "bad day" are magnified, and leave you asking yourself, "really, really that had to happen today?" Our morning of unfortunate events reached it's pinnacle when Brooke experienced one of her firsts for the day, and summersaulted off our kitchen chairs, which are higher than most, and landed face first on the floor. I have no idea how she fell. She was sitting there eating her oatmeal, and then out of the corner of my eye I saw her fall. The poor thing is normally so tough, and falling doesn't phase her; but not today. She bit her bottom lip hard on the inside, and outside. At first, I thought she bit her lip all the way through, and for a split second thought we were going to have to go into the doctor's office. There are two different cuts, just close together, and she has a fat lip. I put ice on it, I'm surprised that she let me, and we watched the Jungle Book. Our morning finally turned around with our first email from Daddy!! We weren't sure if and when David would be able to contact me, so I was not expecting to hear from him at all today. He landed safely in Germany, which he is visiting for the first time. He will be there for a day or so and then continue towards his destination of Afghanistan; it is suppose to take 4 or 5 days of traveling to get there. David's email brightened my day, and I found that the rest of the day went better than I expected.

Today was also Brooke's first day of tumbling class. She is so calm, and just takes everything in. She watched the other kids, then she would try, but it wasn't until her second time around on each piece of equip/new skill that she would really get into what she was doing. I also got a call today for another class for Brooke. She just got off the wait list for ballet. She is now a busy girl, with two classes and a play group every week as a minimum. David and I really wanted to get her into that class, so I am so excited that we got called today. She loves to dance and sing. Right before David left, he taught Brooke the hokie pokie, and she just loves it. It is getting late, and this pretty much sums up my day. Thank you to everyone who has been showering David with your prayers for safe traveling!!
